The GYROTONIC® method is a safe movement method that encourages freedom of movement with control, enables simultaneous lengthening and strengthening of muscles and enhances joint mobility, allowing the joints to move through a natural range of motion without jarring or compression that could lead to pain or injury. GYROTONIC® incorporates natural movement patterns that reduce muscle tension and create a connection between different body parts that begin working as a whole. These movements stimulate the activation of the local stabilisers which respond by supporting the lumbopelvic region. Breathing patterns that correspond to the movements require relaxed diaphragmatic breathing which supports the spine from the inside out by activating the deeper muscle structures. GYROTONIC® exercise sequences are composed of coordinated bending, extending, spiralling and circular movements that create decompression in the joint surfaces and prevent tension-building which, in the long run, results in the joints regaining their full range of motion.
GYROTONIC® was created by Juliu Horvath, a professional ballet dancer who experienced several injuries but was unable to treat them with success. Chronic pain led him to form a unique system of movement which was refined and executed on a special chair and later on a special line of equipment. The technique originates from organic, natural motions and brings together Yoga, Tai Chi, swimming, gymnastics, and dance. The original idea developed into what is now known as GYROTONIC®, a method that stimulates greater body awareness, improves posture and creates a tension-free body. The method has reaped great international success because of its continuous progress and development.
Regardless of your previous physical activity and your overall shape, you can benefit from the GYROTONIC® method in many different ways.
We recommend it to anyone who:
• has restricted mobility (which can have a negative impact on the whole body);
• sits for long periods of time (which causes spinal compression and strain);
• notices bad posture;
• has problems with the spine (the method has a positive effect on the articulation and mobility of the intervertebral structures);
• wants to improve circulation and stimulate the cardiovascular and lymphatic system in a safe and non-invasive manner
• wants to improve their well-being and diminish the effects of stress
The method was clinically shown to improve different spinal conditions, including sciatica, scoliosis, stenosis, spinal disc hernia and other problems, such as hip or knee joint arthrosis. It also helps in rehabilitation after spinal surgeries, and in the case of reduced mobility or stiffness dues to static body postures and misalignment.
