The GYROKINESIS® method is a safe movement method that encourages spinal movement in different directions, gently works the entire body, stimulating the nervous system, increasing range of motion, and creating functional strength through circular, flowing movement sequences. The emphasis is on continuous breathing, articulation of the spine and elimination of poor movement patterns. GYROKINESIS® promotes joint mobility and reduces tension in the joints. Regular GYROKINESIS® exercise reveals any muscle imbalances that cause pain, strain, and even injuries. Through rhythmical movements in standing, sitting or lying posture, the body gets accustomed to deep muscle activation in the joints and better posture. The exercise programme is based on the four basic spinal movements: flexion, extension, rotation and lateral flexion or side-bending that involve all major joints working in a tension-free zone. The flowing movement creates space between joint surfaces, takes pressure off the joints and increases range of motion in the long run. The basic, natural movements help reduce muscle tension, create connections between different parts of the body, and stimulate the deep local stabilisers which offer direct support to the lumbopelvic region. Breathing patterns that correspond to the movements require relaxed diaphragmatic breathing which supports the spine from the inside out by activating the deepest muscle structures.
GYROKINESIS® was created by Juliu Horvath, a professional ballet dancer who experienced several injuries but was unable to treat them with success. Chronic pain led him to form a unique system of movement which was refined and executed on a special chair and later on a special line of equipment. His initial idea developed into the GYROKINESIS® method which encourages body awareness, better posture and creates a tension-free body without intervertebral disc compression.
GYROKINESIS® is an original, and unique movement method which has benefits and qualities similar to those found in Yoga, Tai Chi, gymnastics, and dance. The method has reaped great international success because of its continuous progress and development.
GYROKINESIS® group classes
Gyrokinesis group classes take place on chairs and mats and are limited to ten participants per class. GYROKINESIS® classes can be adapted to fit anyone's ability. The method works to reduce the negative effects of long term sitting and focuses on building a healthy and flexible spine. Experience all the benefits of the method in a small group environment, overcome the feeling of stiffness and regain your natural muscle suppleness. Enjoy in this high-intensity workout on a chair and keep your spine moving in different body positions while breathing with your whole body. Use of socks is required for safety and hygienic reasons. Clients visiting group classes have a fixed class schedule. When your monthly pass expires, you are asked to renew your class reservation by contacting the reception or your instructor. For more details on how we operate, please read our Terms of service.
GYROKINESIS® private session
A private GYROKINESIS® session begins with the client's postural assessment of muscular imbalances which is the basis for the creation of a personalised training programme and involves different positions of the body, including sitting, lying or standing. Private classes are becoming more and more popular since they offer an exclusive personal approach that can greatly complement all professional sports, different forms of recreation, and any kind of rehabilitation process. Your GYROKINESIS® instructor will design a programme most suited to your personal needs and desires. You decide on the intensity of the classes and whether you want to build strength, mobility, or wish to start rehabilitation after injury. Private GYROKINESIS® classes last for 55 minutes. Use of socks is required for safety and hygienic reasons.
