The GYROKINESIS® method is a safe movement method that encourages spinal movement in different directions, gently works the entire body, stimulating the nervous system, increasing range of motion, and creating functional strength through circular, flowing movement sequences.
Regular GYROKINESIS® exercise reveals any muscle imbalances that cause pain, strain, and even injuries. Through rhythmical movements in standing, sitting or lying posture, the body gets accustomed to deep muscle activation in the joints and better posture. The exercise programme is based on the four basic spinal movements: flexion, extension, rotation and lateral flexion or side-bending that involve all major joints working in a tension-free zone. The flowing movement creates space between joint surfaces, takes pressure off the joints and increases range of motion in the long run. The basic, natural movements help reduce muscle tension, create connections between different parts of the body, and stimulate the deep local stabilisers which offer direct support to the lumbopelvic region. Breathing patterns that correspond to the movements require relaxed diaphragmatic breathing which supports the spine from the inside out by activating the deepest muscle structures.
